Each quarter of the year Sereno Group’s Coastal Offices in Santa Cruz and Aptos choose two recipients to receive a grant from Sereno’s 1% for Good Charitable Foundation. Each agent has the option to donate 1% of their commissions to the 1% for Good Program which means that it is 100% agent funded. Since 2012, Sereno agents across the Bay Area have donated over $2,148,723 to local organizations!
The first recipient for the second quarter of 2019 was the Monterey Bay Salmon & Trout Project. I am excited to announce that the second recipient is the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (MAH). The MAH is more than just a museum and place to view art, it’s a local community space and the focal point of many downtown events. Located right in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz, the MAH is adjacent to Abbott Square, an outdoor public plaza with six restaurants, two bars, and family-friendly events. MAH’s mission is to “ignite shared experiences and unexpected connections,” which is accomplished by bringing people together around art, history, and culture, through weekly events.

- All-Age Craft Nights
- Volunteer Events
- Youth Rock Shows
- Live Music
- Poetry Readings
- DIY Days
- First Friday
There are numerous ways you can get involved:
- Become a Member - With multiple levels of membership to choose from, all include free admission to the museum, a gift store discount, and the ability to attend MAH events for free (or a discounted rate).
- Volunteer - Go behind the scenes and help with weekly creative events.
- Sponsor an Event or Exhibition - If you choose to sponsor an event or exhibition, your name will be associated with an impactful experience which contributes to Santa Cruz community.
MAH also has a rooftop sculpture garden (the only rentable rooftop in Downtown Santa Cruz) and secret garden that is available for rent for special occasions. There are also other spaces available that are perfect for weddings, conferences, gatherings, and kids birthday parties.
History on the 1% for Good Program
The 1% for Good program originated in the Santa Cruz Sereno Group office out of a desire to help contribute to worthwhile community causes through philanthropic donations. The program has since extended to other Sereno Group branches and offices in the Bay Area, resulting in a joint effort to support and contribute to local communities. Each office independently decides which local organization they will donate 1% of quarterly commissions to, allowing them to find a worthy local cause and donate where it’s needed the most.
